Though easy for an audience to sing along with, this full three-verse treatment of the familiar carol is extremely
dramatic. Beginning with an ethereal introduction, the first verse is treated in traditional gentle lullaby fashion. An
instrumental transition leads us into a darker treatment of the second verse, with its text about Christ's humble
beginnings in a lowly stable and its foreshadowing of His sacrifice on the cross. Then a majestic processional
march begins for the third verse about the visit of the Magi, and celebrates the joy and hope brought to the world
with the birth of the newborn King. You can choose to end with the glorious conclusion of the third verse, or end with the
thoughtful coda that closes with a quiet nod to the atmospheric introduction.
