Commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This opener provides a joyous welcome for your audience, using a contemporary approach to a 'merry olde England' musical atmosphere. The carol tune "Deck the Hall" is used in a very free way that will delight the listener with its twists and turns. The boisterous instrumental opening gives way to a magical setting of the tune featuring solo celesta and flying strings; then a brass fanfare announces the arrival of the chorus, who explode with a grand welcome and proclamation that all present will indeed enjoy a 'merry olde Christmas.' The instrumental segments are suitable for a processional as well if desired. |
