O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL
[4:30] 2/1*-2/1-2/1-2/1, 4-3-3-1, timp+3, hp, pno/cel, org, handbells (can be played by choir members), Children's Choir, SATB Chorus, strings. Piano/vocal score is published and can be purchased here.
Commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Suitable for use as a grand processional, with some choir members playing simple handbell parts. Orchestral opening is a showpiece for the horn section, building to a full orchestra climax before the chorus enters in stately fashion. Various sections of the orchestra receive the spotlight before the quiet children's second verse, and an orchestra and organ interlude prepares us for the final majestic verse with its surprising modulation.
